We are blessed when we keep the commandments: 1st Week Sharing Time Idea for September 2012

IDENTIFY THE DOCTRINE (seeing an object lesson): Invite a mother to bring her baby to sharing time.  Invite the children to share some rules that would help keep the baby safe.  Tell the children that we are all Heavenly Father’s children; He loves us and gives us rules or commandments that will keep us safe and happy.  Show a picture of Moses and the Ten Commandments (found on this page), and briefly tell the children how Moses received the commandments (see Exodus 19-20).

ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING (singing songs): Put the following three phrases on the board: “Respect and Worship God,” “Honor Parents,” and “Respect Others.”  Tell the children that the Ten Commandments can be separated into these three categories.  Divide the children into groups and give them each a song that relates to one of the categories.  Ask each group to decide who will sing the song (for example, boys only, girls only, or those wearing red).  After the song is sung, ask a child to post the song under the proper category.  Consider using the following songs: “Saturday” (CS, 196), “Quickly I’ll Obey” (CS, 197), “My Dad” (CS, 211), “The Church of Jesus Christ” (CS, 77), and “Kindness Begins with Me” (CS, 145).

ENCOURAGE APPLICATION (singing a song): Sing “Keep the Commandments” (CS, 146-47), and ask the children to listen for the promises we receive when we keep the commandments.  Invite them to share how they are blessed when they keep the commandments.

Sharing Time Idea from Little LDS Ideas
What a busy day! We announced our giveaway winner and now I have a Sharing Time idea to share.

I know you all are probably enjoying your Saturday, so I’ll make this short and sweet!
Today I have a great Sharing Time idea for all of you. And you’re extra lucky because I have it typed up and ready for you to print out and use. 🙂
It goes right along with the Sharing Time Outline, but with just a few little changes.
I have included 2 different ideas to introduce the theme.
The ideas that I share are sure to be a hit and grab the children’s attention.
Then I have a fun activity for the children to learn and discuss each of the 10 commandments.

Take a look and see what you think.
**And if you still need another idea here is my idea from a couple years ago. This Sharing Time is also typed up and ready to print. I include 4 different ‘Commandment Games’ you could use.

Have a wonderful week everyone & a great Sharing Time!

  1. Thanks so much for helping me prepare awesome sharing times. You are so clever and imaginative – the primary kids love them.

  2. I loved this idea. I’m still a very new Primary President and was totally at a loss for how to do this week’s lesson. I’m super excited for it now!
