ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING (listening to a scripture story): Tell the story of Alma the Younger, and invite the children to do actions with you that go along with the story. The following is an example: “Alma the Younger was making bad choices (make a mean face). He and his friends tried to destroy the Church. One day an angel came to stop them; Alma was afraid (act afraid). He was so afraid that he fell over as if he were dead (act dead). He felt so sorry for his sins that for three days he could not move (hold still). Finally, he remembered that Jesus Christ had paid the price, or atoned, for his sins. When he thought about what Jesus had done, he felt great joy (jump for joy). Alma repented and became a great prophet who taught the people about Jesus Christ” (see Alma 36). Encourage application (discussing): Briefly discuss the following principles of repentance:
(1) realize I did something wrong
(2) feel sorrow for sin
(3) confess to Heavenly Father
(4) right the wrong
(5) don’t do it again
Sharing Time Ideas from Little LDS Ideas
I have some great ideas to share with all of you today. I have some of my own ideas and some great ideas from others.
ABC’s of Repentance
Teach the children about repentance by using the ABC’s of repentance. You’ll open with an object lesson and then discuss the steps of repentance.
Sharing Time Idea from Latter-Day Chatter
There is a great Sharing Time available over at Latter-Day Chatter. You’ll be comparing sins and repentance to rocks in your shoes. This is an idea that the kids will love!
Don’t Take the Bait
Here’s another great idea that your Primary will love. This idea comes from Sugardoodle (shared by Jeanette Binns).
For this sharing time you will be comparing sin and repentance to fishing, bait, and lures.
I have other ideas that I have shared in the past.
