{Sharing Time} Priesthood Ordinances Bless & Strengthen My Family

Sharing Time Ideas from the 2014 Outline

IDENTIFY THE DOCTRINE(singing a song): Ask the children to listen for something that blesses their family as you sing the second verse of “Love Is Spoken Here” (CS, 190–91) together. Explain that priesthood ordinances can bless and strengthen all families.
ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING(discussing pictures): Divide the children into groups and give each group a picture of a priesthood ordinance. Ask each group to think of some clues that would help others guess the ordinance shown in their picture (for example, “This ordinance takes place each Sunday at church”). Invite each group to share their clues, and let the other children guess what priesthood ordinance they are describing. After they have guessed correctly, discuss how the ordinance blesses us, and display the picture on the board.
ENCOURAGE APPLICATION(sharing experiences): Invite the children to talk with their families at home about when priesthood ordinances blessed and strengthened their lives.
Sharing Time Ideas from Little LDS Ideas
Here’s a quick idea that you can use for this week’s Sharing Time.

Priesthood Grab Bag
In a bag or container have several different objects that represent a priesthood ordinance.
Baptism- a number 8 or water
Gift of the Holy Ghost- picture of a gift, hands (laying on of hands), etc.
Sacrament: Bread & Water
Invite a child up to the front and have them pick an item from the grab bag. Have them look at the item and have them guess what ordinance that represents.
After the child has guessed which ordinance the object represents discuss the ordinance and blessings and help the children understand how it blesses and strengthens families.
You could have a picture for each ordinance to show to all the children.
Another Way to Play:Instead of having all the objects in one bag…you could have a bag for each ordinance. Inside of the bag have several different items to represent each ordinance. Have a child pick one item at a time until the ordinance is guessed correctly. Then show the children a picture of that ordinance and discuss it with all the children.

I hope you like my ‘Priesthood Grab Bag’ idea.
Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a wonderful day & a great Sharing Time!

  1. Thank you so much for sharing your idea. I love the grab bag! I have lots of 3 and 5 year olds. Having them pick out objects will help them connect the picture, object, and ordinance. I am a visual learner so I LOVE this idea and I am excited to do this activity with the children.

The grab bag idea is perfect for our junior primary! The sharing time outline in the manual is catered more for senior primary. Your grab bag idea lets the smaller kids come up and have a hands-on experience holding a very simple clue to guess the priesthood ordinances. Thank you!
