So today I am going to try to share some games with you that you can use for Sharing Time, Singing Time, and at the end of your Class. The first one is one that we all have heard of, Tic Tac Toe. I first used this game when the Music Leader asked if I could do Singing Time for her. It was towards the end of the year, so I wanted to review all of the songs.
First, I made a big Tic-Tac-Toe grid on a poster board. Then I wrote up questions that went along with the songs from the year. Some of the questions I had were:
-Can you guess this tune? (Have pianist play the first few notes of
‘How Firm a Foundation, pg. 85 in Hymnal)
-What will you ‘seek while in your youth? “I’ll seek the ___ early while in my youth.” (Lord)
-My life is a _______. My life has a ______. My life has a ______, in heaven it began. What are the missing words? (Gift, plan, purpose, “I will Follow God’s Plan” p.164)
I split the Primary into two teams, X’s and O’s. Decide which team goes first. Ask the first person a question. If they answer the question correctly they get to put an X or O on the tic-tac-toe grid. If they don’t answer it correctly, the other team gets a chance to answer it. If both teams get the answer wrong, no one gets to put an X or O, but they still have to sing the song that went with that question. After each question is answered sing the song that goes with that question.
My Mother-in-law used to teach Valiant 11 & 12. She used to play tic-tac-toe at the end of her lesson each Sunday (if they had time). Before class she would write a list of questions that had to do with the lesson. She would split the class into two teams and play tic-tac-toe. The kids loved this, and it was a good way to review the lesson. You could even throw a few questions in there from the week before.
For Sharing time it’s the same idea. Write up a list of questions that has to do with the topic, and then split the primary children into two teams, X’s and O’s. Take turns asking each team a question.
It’s a simple game, but the children really enjoy it.
