Sharing Time Idea from the 2018 Outline
Identify the doctrine (singing a song): Sing together “Do As I’m Doing” (CS, 276) several times, inviting different children to choose the action to perform. Explain that when we follow the actions of someone else, we are following his or her example. Ask who set the perfect example for us to follow (Jesus Christ). Invite the children to say together, “Jesus Christ set an example for us.”
Encourage understanding (reading scriptures): Place pictures of the following events on the board: Christ being baptized, Christ with children, Christ praying, and Christ teaching. Read one of the following scriptures together, and ask the children to explain what Christ is teaching in that scripture:
Mark 16:15; John 13:34–35; 3 Nephi 11:37; 3 Nephi 18:19.
Slowly point to each picture and invite the children to stand when you point to the one that best shows Christ doing what He taught us to do in the scripture you read. Repeat with the remaining scriptures.
Encourage application (drawing a picture): Give each child a piece of paper, and invite them to draw a picture of themselves following Christ’s example. For example, a child could draw himself being baptized, teaching the gospel to a friend, or helping someone. Invite a few children to share their pictures with the other children, and encourage them to share their drawings with their families.
Sharing Time Ideas from Little LDS Ideas
This week I am sharing an old idea, again, but have updated it to include printables to help you out. This idea goes right along with the idea given in the outline, but I have added just a little to it to make it a little more fun and engaging.
For this idea the children will be walking in Christ’s “footsteps” as they learn about Him and His example. I hope you enjoy my March 2018 Week 1 Sharing Time Idea.
For my March 2018 Week 1 Sharing Time Idea you will need:
• A picture of Christ
• Sandals (optional)
• My Sharing Time Printables (link below)
• Gospel Art Kit pictures: Christ being baptized, Christ with children, Christ praying, and Christ teaching
• Objects that represents each of the scriptures: water, heart, missionary tag/picture of missionary, picture of someone praying
You will also need to attach the matching scripture to the back of each of your items. I have provided scripture reference printables in my printable kit below.
The children will be choosing an object from the table. They will read/listen to the scripture and then match the object and scripture to the appropriate picture of Christ. I’ll explain this a little more later. 🙂

To Begin Your Sharing Time
I love the “Identify the Doctrine” idea given in the outline: “Sing together ‘Do As I’m Doing’ (CS, 276) several times, inviting different children to choose the action to perform.”
After you have finished the activity, explain that when we follow the actions of someone else, we are following his or her example. Tell the children that you are thinking of someone that you choose to follow. Explain that this person set the perfect example for us to follow. Invite the children to stand up or raise their hand if they know who you are talking about.
Show the children a picture of Christ and write the phrase, “Jesus Christ Set an Example For Us” on the board or type it onto a large piece of paper. Show the children the phrase and have them repeat it with you. Tell the children that while Jesus was on the earth He “went about doing good” (Acts 10:38) and taught others the gospel. He wants us to follow His example, so today we are going to walk in His footsteps and learn how Christ served and loved others and set an example for us.

March 2018 Week 1 Sharing Time Idea Activity: How To Play
There are a few ways you could do this, here is one way you can do it. Before Primary (or right before your Sharing Time) place the pictures all around the Primary Room. If you’d like, you could use my blank footstep printables to create a path to each picture.
If you chose to use sandals for your Sharing Time this is where they come in. Explain to the children that back when Jesus Christ was on the earth people did not wear fancy tennis shoes, most people wore sandals. You could then talk about how Jesus traveled to many places serving and teaching. Tell the children that today they are going to walk in His footsteps and follow His example. Show the children the objects on the table, and tell the children that the objects have to do with one of the pictures that you see posted around the room. Explain that you are going to invite someone up to put on the sandals and choose an object. Each object has a matching scripture that you will read aloud. They are then going to have to walk in Christ’s footsteps and find the matching picture.
Once the children have chosen the correct picture go over the story. Ask if anyone knows what part the object you used plays in the story. You could ask the children, ‘What is Jesus doing in this picture?’ and “How can we follow His example?” Once you have matched all of the scriptures/objects with the correct picture have the children look at the Picture of Christ again and repeat the phrase, “Jesus Christ Set an Example for Us.”
.
Another Way To Play: Sr. Primary
To make it a little more challenging for the Sr. Primary, I thought you could have the children select a scripture reference from the board (you could also place them under chairs or have them in brown paper bags). Have the child look up the scripture and read it aloud. They would then need to find the matching object and the matching picture.

THANK YOU! This is perfect, I love it!
I used to create my own stuff but I work full time and have kids etc so when it comes to sharing time I am so very grateful for your ideas and printables. The kids in primary thank you lol because I am sure I wouldn’t be able to throw together anything as fun. thanks again
Thank you, Michele. Life is crazy! I’m glad I can help in small ways make it a little less crazy. 😉
I love your blog. I use your ideas every time I have to teach! I have 3 kids, work and I am the primary president.
I don’t know how you find time to come up with these ideas as well as post them. But I am very thankful for your time
and for sharing with me so that I can give a good lesson. There is a great talk by President Monson that shared some great points/stories
on Following Christ Example called “Be an Example and Light”
Thank you, Rachel. Some times it is hard to find time to share ideas, but I love it and try my best to post them. I am so glad you enjoy them and find them helpful. Thanks for reminding me of President Monson’s talk, I remember that talk and loved it! But honestly, I loved all of President Monson’s talks. 🙂
Thank you so much for these lovely ideas for Sharing Time. You make my calling so much easier
You’re very welcome, Anne!
Do you have March week 3 available yet? I’ve used one of yours in the past and loved it!
Hi Jillian. I am going to try to get one up. Sorry! We have had a lot of family stuff come up so I haven’t had much time to share anything. 🙁
