{Sharing Time} April 2016: Jesus Christ was Chosen to be Our Savior

Sharing Time Ideas from the 2016 Outline

Introduce the doctrine: Write on the board “Jesus Christ was ______ to be our Savior.” Have the letters c, h, o, s, e, and n scattered around the room. Let the children unscramble the letters to complete the sentence. Ask them to read Moses 4:2 to check their answer. Read the statement on the board together.

Encourage understanding: Prepare three wordstrips with one of the following questions about “I Lived in Heaven” (CS, 4) written on each:

Who presented a plan to everyone in heaven before we came to earth?

Who said, “Father, send me, and the glory be thine”?

What did Jesus conquer by following the Father’s plan?

Have the children sing the first verse of the song and stand when they sing the answer to the first question. Then discuss some of the other things they learned from this verse. Consider singing the verse again after you have discussed it. Then repeat the activity with the other verses and questions.

Sharing Time Ideas from Little LDS Ideas

I have noticed that some people are switching the March and April Sharing Time ideas, so I decided to try and post ideas for both months. Let’s see how I do. 🙂

I thought since Easter is this month (March) it would be fun to incorporate Easter Eggs into Sharing Time and do a little Sharing Time Easter egg hunt. I also saw an idea on Sugardoodle, HERE, that was shared several years ago that I really liked for the ‘Encourage Understanding’ part of Sharing Time. Hope you enjoy this week’s idea!

**If you are doing this idea during March you can use the Easter idea, but what about those that decide to do this in April, no problem! I will share ideas that can be used for both months. 🙂

Easter Sharing Time Idea

Print out my ‘Choices’ posters (2 posters; link below). You will also need to gather some Easter Eggs (if you are using eggs for this Sharing Time). Write the letters: C-H-O-S-E-N; onto small pieces of paper (make 2 copies) and place the letters inside of 12 eggs.

Onto strips of paper write or type these questions and place them inside of 3 eggs as well:

Who presented a plan to everyone in heaven before we came to earth?

Who said, “Father, send me, and the glory be thine”?

What did Jesus conquer by following the Father’s plan?

Jesus Christ was Chosen to be Our Savior

At the beginning of your Sharing Time, post the ‘Choices’ posters (link at bottom) on either side of the room.

Explain to the children that as a Primary, we are going to pretend that we are all going on a fun trip to the ________ (zoo, amusement park, park, etc.). But we need to decide which option we are going to choose for our fun trip. Here are the options:

Option A: We will all get to go, but I will plan everything; everybody will do the same things (go on the same rides, see the same animals, play on the slides, etc.) and eat the same foods; nobody will get to choose what to do, but nobody will get lost or hurt either.

Option B: We will all get to go, but I will give guidelines; everybody can decide what they will do and what to eat; however, because you’re able to make your own choice, I cannot guarantee nobody will get lost or hurt.

Once you have explained the options invite the children to stand by the option that they choose.

Have everyone sit in their groups, and give each group a basket with 6 Easter Eggs. Inside each of the eggs will be one of the letters: C-H-O-S-E-N. Have the groups work together to unscramble the word. You could then have the groups read Moses 4:2 to check their answer.

**For those of you doing this idea in April, you could just give each group the pieces of paper with the letters on each piece. Have them work together to unscramble the word.

Once everyone has had a couple minutes to unscramble and read the scripture, continue on by showing a picture of Jesus Christ. Explain to the children that when we lived with Heavenly Father we, too, were faced with two options. The options we were faced with were much more important than the one I had you choose today. Would you like to learn about the choice we made while we lived with Heavenly Father? YES!

To learn about it we are going to sing a song and hunt for more Easter Eggs!

Inside 3 Easter Eggs, have these 3 questions:

1. Who presented a plan to everyone in heaven before we came to earth?

2. Who said, “Father, send me, and the glory be thine”?

3. What did Jesus conquer by following the Father’s plan?

You can do this activity 2 different ways:

  1. Hide the eggs before Primary. Invite a child up to the front and have them find 1 egg. Have them open the egg and read the question aloud. Then have everyone sing the song to see if they can hear the answer.
  2. Play Hot & Cold. Our Primary children LOVE playing this game, and by doing it this way, you can find the eggs in order. Invite 2 children up to the front and have one be the hider and the other to be the hunter. Have the one child go out in the hall and wait. Have the ‘hider’ hide the Easter egg somewhere in the room. Once the egg is hidden, invite the ‘hunter’ back into the Primary room. Have the children sing “I Lived in Heaven” while the child hunts for the egg. When the child is close to the egg have the children sing loudly, but as they move further away, have the children sing quietly.

Once the egg is found have them read the question aloud. If the child know the answer they can share their answer or if they don’t, they can choose a child to answer the question. Discuss the question and the answer, and then choose 2 new children to hide and find the next egg.

Instead of having the questions inside of eggs you could simply place them underneath children’s seats OR you could have a picture to represent each question. For instance:

You could have a picture of the Earth for question #1 and have the question written on the back, Question #2 could be a picture of a question mark, and Question #3 could be a picture of Jesus Christ. Before Primary begins, hide each of the questions/pictures somewhere in the room. When it’s time, invite a child up to the front and have them search for a particular picture. Once they find it have them read the question aloud and answer it.

If you like the Hot & Cold game then all you have to do is give the ‘hider’ the picture/question, and have them hide it, and have the ‘hunter’ find it.

Thank you so much! I love this and will be using it for sharing time on Sunday.

  2. Shae

any ideas for the fourth week of april?

    1. Sorry, Shae! I just saw your comment. I think it got buried beneath Spam comments. 🙁

  3. Thank you very much. This is a great addition to our sharing time lesson. I love the trip idea!

  4. Jess

I think it is important to note that there was only ONE plan: The Plan of Salvation, that was introduced to all. This way of teaching might make the children think that there were 2 plans presented. With that said, please know that I really do appreciate all the time and effort you put into creative ways to teach sharing time! Just wanted to put my 2 cents out. 🙂 Thanks Sheena!

    1. Thanks, Jess! So true, I didn’t even think about that when I saw the original idea on Sugardoodle. 🙂
