A couple weeks ago I received a wonderful book in the mail from Deseret Book. The book that I received is journal to help families hold regular family councils, and to record those special meetings. Since I heard Elder Ballard encourage all members to hold regular Family Councils it has been on my mind, but it is something that we still haven’t done. Today I am sharing a review of “Our Family Council Journal”, and a little peek inside of it. I am so excited to have received this book, and I hope that it will help us to finally make time for Family Councils.
In the very first pages of this journal you will find Elder Ballard’s talk, “Family Councils”, which is an amazing talk. A few pages after his words, you will find a page with ‘Reminders About Family Councils’ as well as ‘Suggestions For Using This Journal’. I loved reading the suggestions and the possibilities for using this journal.
Throughout the journal are colorful pages with wonderful quotes, like the one pictured below. Each of the quotes found in this journal are great and very uplifting. After reading a few of them, I was reminded of the importance of Family Councils.
One of my favorite quotes from Elder Ballard’s talk, and that is also found in the book is,
“Children desperately need parents willing to listen to them, and the family council can provide a time during which family members can learn to understand and love one another.”
Our Family Council Journal
What I love most about this journal is that it eventually will act as a journal for your entire family. This book is filled with pages for you to fill with special memories and discussions you have with your children. I have a journal, but this journal is created specifically for recording notes from family councils. I’m hoping that this journal will serve as a reminder to my husband and I to hold family councils.
I know that my family will benefit greatly from holding regular family council meetings, and I am excited to finally do that and help strengthen our family. I would recommend this book to any family looking to hold family councils. This would also make a great gift to give to extended families or families you visit/home teach.
Do you hold regular Family Councils with the members of your family? What have you found works or doesn’t work? I would love any tips or ideas. If you’re like me, and haven’t even started, be sure to stop by Deseret Book and take a look at “Our Family Council Journal”.
I want to thank Deseret Book for allowing me to review this fabulous journal, and I am excited to use it to help my family grow closer and stronger. There are so many distractions that keep us from making time for those we love, but it should be our top priority.
Thanks so much for stopping by. I would love to hear your thoughts, so be sure to leave me a comment. Have a wonderful day!
