General Conference is two weeks away! As a mother, I try to find activities to keep my children interested and busy throughout General Conference, but coming up with activities to keep little ones (or even big ones) busy and attentive can be a tough job.
I was so excited when Emilee contacted me and asked if I would consider reviewing a book that her and her sisters had just finished, and I am so glad that I did because their book, Growing Up with Conference, is amazing! This book is full of great ideas to use to prepare for General Conference, ideas during General Conference, and ideas for after General Conference.
The beginning of the book is all about Planning & Organizing. This section includes lots of fun ideas that take a little planning to get it all together. There are several countdown type activities that would be perfect to help your family prepare for General Conference. One of my favorites from the book is called the ’15 Days Apostle Frame’. The idea is to have a picture frame with a picture of a member of the First Presidency or Twelve Apostles. In addition to the picture, Tiffany likes to add an object that represents that person. Each day have a new picture with a fact card on the back, which can be found on the Sweetly Made Just For You blog as a free printable. This helps the children learn the faces and the names of each of the Apostles and First Presidency. You could even have the children guess what the item might mean, so get creative.
Conference-Inspired Family Home Evening Lessons
Another thing that I loved about this book were the Family Home Evening lessons that were included. There are two sections of FHE lessons, one that focuses on preparing for General Conference, and another that focuses on after General Conference. The lessons in this book have everything you need to put together a quick, yet thoughtful and spiritual, lesson.
DIY Reverent Activities
This section has so many great ideas! Included are some of these ideas:
General Conference Bags
Conference Tin Buckets
CTR Dollar Bills
One of my favorite DIY Reverent Activities from the book is one that my family has done before, just not for General Conference. Create a concession stand where your family can purchase treats to enjoy during General Conference. There are different ways that you could run your concession stand, I already have tons of ideas going through my mind on how we could do this.
These are just a few things that I really enjoyed in the ‘Growing Up With Conference’. I will definitely use this book to help my family enjoy General Conference and to help us get more out of it.
Right now ‘Growing Up With General Conference’ is only available as an e-book, but to be honest, I really liked it as an e-book because there are a lot of links to free printables! Having it in a digital form makes it easy to just click and be taken to the link.
Thank you, Emilee and Cedar Fort, for the opportunity to review this wonderful book. I am so excited to use some of these ideas for my family.
I hope you enjoyed my thoughts, and the little ‘peek’ into this book. Do you have any fun ideas that you have always done for General Conference? I’d love to hear your ideas, so leave me a comment letting me know.
Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a wonderful day.
