I don’t know how many times I have read this verse, but during my studies this week this verse stood out to me.
.
There have been many many times in my life where I have “traveled in darkness” for many hours. In these moments I usually wander aimlessly wondering if I’m ever going to find my way. In these moments I find myself filled with fear, anger, doubt, or loneliness.
.
When I finally come to the realization that I cannot find my way out of the darkness without help, that is when I remember one who is always near me patiently waiting for me to cry unto Him.
.
It is easy to look back and criticize myself for not having more faith or for not turning to the Lord sooner. But as I read 1 Nephi 8:8 this week I read that even Lehi, a prophet of God, traveled for many hours in the darkness before turning to the Lord.
.
We won’t always be led out of the darkness immediately, but as we seek Christ we can overcome the feelings of fear, anger, doubt, and loneliness, and eventually find our way out of the darkness. 💡 .

When we first started discussing the SEEK Retreat and what classes we should have we had the idea of having our classes focus on four main areas: Seek Christ as Individuals, Families, in our Marriage, and through service/callings.

The last several weeks I have shared teachers from the Individual category, but today I’m sharing one from our marriage category.
.
Andrea Lystrup from @askandreamft will be teaching: “Learning to Love as Deep as Christ Does” and will be sharing three ways to strengthen your marriage.
.
I am so excited to focus on these four areas and learn ways we can seek Christ in each one.

I do a mix. If I’m in the car I will listen. I also like having access to all these wonderful messages on my phone. But I LOVE having the talk in front of me on paper where I can highlight and make notes.
.
I do have a folder on my phone (in my notes app) filled with quotes that I come across and love. .

Today another year comes to a close. I took some time today to reflect on 2019 and think about what I would like to change.
.
To be honest, I am horrible at goals. I start off excited and ready to conquer what I set out to do. Then life happens and those goals I once had set are something of the past.
.
I want 2020 to be different!
.
I recently came across @cultivatewhatmatters and listened to an episode on goal setting. ❤️
.
“Goals are not going to change your life. Knowing what matters will. Goals are just how you get there.”
.
It is easy to jot down a list of goals that you would like to accomplish. But an important step that we often forget is thinking about the why. Why is that a goal of yours? Why does it matter?
.
When you set goals knowing the “why” in mind you will have a list of purpose-filled goals. Goals that mean something to you. Goals that drive you.
.
Tonight I plan to sit down by myself and with my family and discuss our goals for 2020.
.

Did you watch the Christmas Devotional? Elder Patrick Keaton’s talk was exactly what I needed to hear. Here are just a few quotes from his talk:

“December brings with it parties and concerts, gatherings and gifts, schedules fill up, and sometimes the expectations we impose upon ourselves actually take away from the joy of the season rather than magnifying it.”

“This is the perfect occasion for us to prayerfully consider our focus. What are your hopes for this Christmas season what are your sincere desires for yourself and your loved ones as you gather together for this most holy of holy days.”

“Where is your focus? Consider what you have on your calendar. Is your schedule too packed? Are certain cultural traditions and pressures causing you undue stress and preventing you from receiving and reflecting the joy of Christ’s birth? How might you simplify your calendar this Christmas?”

“As this Christmas approaches, let us do more of what matters and much less of what doesn’t. Let us seek to do the works of Jesus of Nazareth.”

Yesterday I saw a post that mentioned how simple the first Christmas was and that it’s ok if yours is too. I love this and the idea of simplifying and focusing on what matters.
